About Camping Le Ruisseau - Bidart, Biarritz, SW France

Days Out & places to visit

Camping Le Ruisseau offers so much for the family, both on and off the campsite. There is so much to do and see in this area that many customers comment that two weeks was not long enough! The Reception at Le Ruisseau offers brochures and maps to help you pick out places to visit.

As we are based in the Basque region of France and are very close to the border with the Basque region of Spain, there are a choice of Basque villages and cities to visit, along with fabulous beaches, mountain roads through the Pyrenees, traditional fruit and veg markets, stylish cafes, fishing villages and more. With an almost bewildering choice of places to visit.

Every year the international surf season is officially opened in Biarritz with hundreds of surfers on the 'Beach of Kings' in front of the romantic Hôtel du Palais, former villa of Eugenia de Montijo, wife of Napoleon III. There is always plenty to see in this elegant city. Throughout the month of June there are beach concerts, and in July there is a grand folk festival with Pelota Basque matches, a unique and fast moving ball game, which is only practised in this region. The main attraction, for over 150,000 people each year, is the Fête de la Sainte Marie on August 15th with spectacular firework displays on the beach. The small, pleasant village of Bidart, with its many quaint terraces and lovely romantic fish restaurants, is located just to the south of Biarritz. The Spanish border and the Pyrénées are within easy reach and the proud Spanish city of San Sebastian is situated just over the border.
